After last week's disappointing 5-1 loss in Oxnard that ultimately clinched first place for Oxnard PAL,  Barcelona Blue SC GU11 rallied to finish the season strong with another shutout victory, 5-0 against fifth place Simi Valley Eclipse.

In what was a tight race until the end, Barca Blue ended their season second in their bracket by a mere point . The team holds a very impressive record of 12-1-1, with 75 goals for and 12 goals against. After a few more practices in early December, the girls will go on a short hiatus, then rev up again to play in the Governor's division in January's State Cup.

Coach Melissa Fernandez led the girls in the amazing season and recently shared some of her philosophies about coaching this age bracket,  "At this age, I don't like to dwell too much on the opposing team tactic-wise…. I always tell the girls that if they play their game they will win.… I believe head to head, we will beat any team in our bracket. I also try to enforce an environment where attitude matters most. If the girls believe they will win, they will….Having the right mind set goes a long way."

Thank you Barca Blue for a thrilling season that exceeded everyone's expectations.  Many thanks also to Coach Melissa and Coach Haley not only for elevating the girls' soccer game, but also for instilling the values of team work, trust, perseverance and commitment that will serve them well now and in the years ahead.

As we officially close the book on the 2014 season, we look forward to seeing what 2015 has in store for this talented group of girls.  Go Barcelona!
