April 13, 2014 – The Boys U15 Team of the Calabasas, CA based Barcelona California Soccer Club (“BarCa”) played on Sunday April 14th in San Bernardino, CA. The BarCa BU15 Team coached by JR Lobo began their journey to the final game of State Cup three weeks earlier in Lancaster, CA where 40 teams competed for the opportunity to advance to the next round of play. BarCa BU15 emerged from this first round of pool play with a 3-0 record, easily advancing to the Round of 32. The following weekend, BarCa BU15 again won all three games, advancing to the Semi-Finals with an unbeaten record. In the Semi-Final game against I.S. Anahuak in San Bernardino on Saturday April 12th until a controversial handball call with 30 seconds left in the game gave their opponent a penalty kick opportunity which was converted to tie the game at 1-1 and send it into overtime. With the game remaining tied at the end of overtime play, the teams lined up for penalty kicks and BarCa BU15 emerged victorious with a 4-3 penalty kick advantage. The team returned to San Bernardino on Sunday April 13th. BarCa BU15 scored an early goal and held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. Midway through the second half, Monarcas SC was awarded a penalty kick on a foul committed in the penalty area, converting the free kick and tying the game 1-1. Monarcas SC scored again late in the second half to secure a victory with a final 2-1 score. BarCa BU15 and Monarcas SC battled throughout the game in hard fought, but cleanly played match that was a testament to the high level of youth soccer played in Southern California. Congratulations to Barcelona California Soccer Club, the Boys U15 players and Coach JR Lobo for their tremendous success in State Cup.
